Build skills and creativity in composition and have the opportunity to have your work performed and recorded.
Day 1: Composing with your Instrument
A practical composing session to build skills and creativity in composition, where students work collaboratively with instruments, working without notation. The workshop encourages the students natural musical instinct, enhancing composition skills though a practical hands-on approach to create musical structures, develop musical material and cultivate a practical understanding of the musical elements that make up a musical composition.
This day is for students who are in Years 10-13 and enrolled on a GCSE, A-level, or equivalent course in Music. Year 9s with strong musical skills may also apply, with a recommendation from their school music department. 25 places available.
Day 2: Composing with Notation
Developing Ideas, a follow-on session limited to 15 places only. Students will examine composition models and explore techniques to compose duets / trios using musical notation in collaboration with experienced musicians who will perform their music as it develops. Students will receive advice on composing techniques, writing for specific instruments as well as the development of musical material.
For Year 10-13 students only. Students must also attend Day 1, and be studying Music in Year 10 or above. 15 places available.
Day 3: Rehearse, Perform, Record.
Selected students will have the opportunity to have their work from the course performed and recorded.
